Better Together, A Blog Post by Pastor Bryan D. Edwards of The Rock Church in Salt Lake City Utah

Can I be honest with you about something? I really love our CHURCH! I recently read an on-line comment about our church (from a new Believer) and it encouraged me so much. It read:

“Today as I was looking around (the church) there were people from all walks of life here and it just amazed me! Families of all races, people in dresses, tank tops, Harley jackets. People with tattoos, some just getting off work, and people who had obviously been sleeping all day! This church is so diverse yet we all connect through an amazing God who has brought us all together.”

Amen to that! God really has brought us all together. It should encourage you to know that because of the work of Jesus, we have not only received God and our salvation, but also the community and fellowship of other Believers! I know that encourages me. My life will never be the same because of the men and women who have poured so much of their lives into mine. They’ve helped me grow in my spiritual walk with Jesus.

That is what makes the church body so special. We are all so different and unique, and yet God is at work in our lives every day. That includes you! Did you know that God wants to work through your life to bless others in the local church? It’s the truth. God takes our relationships with one another
very seriously.

Listen to what the Bible says about our unity with one another:

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encourage one another…” — Hebrews 10:24

“Show hospitality to one another.” — 1Peter 4:9

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship…” — Acts 2:42

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!” — Psalm 133:1

I hope you believe this, my friends. God has brought us all together for our own good! He wants to use your life to bless the lives of others. I want to invite you to walk in that truth.

Maybe you read this and you are not sure what the next step is? Or maybe you are curious how to get more connected at The Rock Church? Here are some simple ways to do just that:

  • Say ‘Hello!’ When you get to church this weekend (before you even sit down). Take three minutes out of your normal routine and go say hello to a person you’ve never met before! (I know, TERRIFYING, right?) Trust me, I believe in you. You can do it. And if it ends up as a disaster, then you can write me and get your money back.
  • Sign up to serve! It takes a village to make church happen each week and we could really use your help. There are plenty of ministries to choose from. From Hospitality to making Coffee, from Kid’s Rock to Lights and Sound. We’ve got something for everyone. We invite you to sign up today at trc.life/serve.
  • Join a Small Group. We have dozens of new Small Groups starting up this month — it’s time to join one! No matter what season of life you are in, there is a Small Group for you: Basecamp Series, Bible studies, Men’s Groups, Women’s Groups, Marriage and Parenting, Serving the Community… you name it! Check out trc.life/smallgroup and get more connected today!
  • The Rock Cares Ministry. If you have a heart for compassion, outreach, and want to be the hands and feet of Christ, come join us! We partner with many different ministries within our own church, our local community, and the world. From Foster care to the homeless, from missions to family support, we are always looking for more people to help! You can go to trc.life/cares to learn more.

These are just a few simple ways that you can get more plugged in this week. Pray and ask God to see how He’s leading you in any of these ways. God has brought us together for a good reason. We really need each other. Do you believe that? I sure do! Take advantage of the amazing people God has placed in your life.

United in Jesus Christ, together —

Bryan
