MISSIONS:

Why we do mission trips:

The Rock Church is all about fulfilling the Great Commission, and not just in our own back yard. In fact, our vision statement is "one life at a time, one world in our lifetime."

Our church was founded from a long history of missionary church-planting, so ever since our inception we've always been a part of national and international projects in partnership with our GCC fellowship of churches, sending missionaries to Ukraine, Germany, Amsterdam, Singapore, and other international church plants.

In addition to our joint projects with GCC, we've also spearheaded several of our own international outreaches. In the summer of 2004, a team headed to Mexico to build a house for an impoverished family. It was such an effective trip that we returned in 2005 and built another one. Several months later a team headed to Turin, Italy, for an evangelistic outreach at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Just two months after that, a small team travelled to Honduras in April 2006 to take part in a GHO medical missions outreach. In the summer of 2008, a large team headed back to Europe for further ministry in Italy and Poland, performing several evangelistic concerts and a ton of street witnessing (click here to see the blog from that trip). And in June 2010, a team visited a new location in Honduras to carry out children's ministry and neighborhood evangelism. We are currently planning return trips to Honduras and Europe in the summer and fall of 2011, respectively.

In addition to these church-sponsored events, numerous Rock Church members personally support mission work with agencies such as Campus Crusade, Compassion International, The Home Foundation, etc., and we always encourage visiting GCC missionaries to set up information tables during our services to help promote their efforts to raise support.

On a national level, in the summer of 2009 The Rock conducted three separate mission trips to Denver and Seattle to partner with and support our sister churches there. In the summer of 2010, three more trips were carried out in Colorado. And it's very important to note that from our very first service in 1999, The Rock has always donated at least ten percent of all donations to our GCC northwest regional office to be used for ongoing church-planting projects and missionary support.

Although actively engaged in trying to reach the world, we fully understand that Utah is the primary mission project to which God has called us. In fact, we often say that Utah is one of best-kept mission secrets in America, providing unique and exciting opportunities — so we keep pretty busy right here! After the first four years of ministry and growth at our original location in Sandy, we planted our second facility in the fall of 2003, which turned out to be so successful that we had to double it the very next year. Then in the fall of 2007, we launched our most recent location in Provo. We currently have five services at our three locations, with the vision of having 20 services active by 2020.

May God take all this effort — and much more to come — to expand His Kingdom and bring glory to His name!
