We need to get smaller . . .
Now, how many churches have you ever heard say that? Most church
leaders would fall over dead before even thinking such a thing! But in
reality, it’s really true. As our church continues to grow, it will
become easier and easier to drift away from close community — and each
other — threatening to fracture our fellowship and unity. We understand
that’s “just the way it goes” in the fast-paced, privatized lives that
we live.
But we’re not going to let that happen.
The remedy can be found in small groups. At The Rock, we consider small
groups to be the heartbeat of our church, and we’ve intentionally built
these groups around the idea that everyone is different. We all have
varying interests, hobbies, desires, etc., so the same is true for our
small groups. You can join a group that hikes or climbs, drinks coffee,
dances the fox trot, or just plays together as families. But you’ll
also find small groups that conduct Bible studies or promote
accountability, requiring us to dig deep for divine direction. It’s all
up to you what you choose to pursue.
But make a choice!
As God continues to build our church, invest some time and energy in
your own little building block. Each of us can make a contribution to a
small group which then makes a bigger contribution to the greater whole
of our church. Men and women, singles and families, learning together,
growing together, united together, sharing joys and trials together,
supporting each other together, serving Christ together — all for the
purpose of making Him known.
Let’s do that — together. |
