One of the most comforting truths for me is the joy of my salvation. “Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit.” (Psalm 51:12)

In the midst of life’s storms when I’m beat down and confused or when Satan unrelentingly assaults me with lies, I fall back on what I know: God saved me and he will always take care of me. I am in the grip of his grace and along the way God will hold my hand. “When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, because the Lord is the One who holds his hand.” (Psalm 37:24)

Like the soothing silk on an infants blanket and the (unfailing) shoulder straps of a carnival ride are the thoughts of my life in Christ. Jesus is the perfect Father and my security is not in question. As his son I’m always within his hearing and within his sight. I remember when my children were unpredictable toddlers and I would train them to stay where I could hear and see them. When they got older I taught them if you hear dad whistle you better come running – no questions asked. It was a safety plan to keep them protected for their own good.

I am so thankful that as believers God gave us his Spirit and his Word to keep us protected along the way. He didn’t just leave us to figure it out in a sink-or-swim scenario. God has carefully planned our way. “‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.’” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Safe and secure,

Mac
