“Don’t worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither. Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” Psalm 37:1-4

Recently, I have been encouraged by the reality of these verses. As a pastor, and even as a Christian, part of my faith is simply knowing that it can be tough at times. There will be times of persecution, times of struggle, pain and doubt. There will even be times when evil seems to win.

BUT, the Lord instructs us to, “Trust in Him and do good…”. I appreciate the Lord’s “marching orders” for us when things seem grey — trust Him, then do more good.

As I have pondered this Truth for the past several weeks, I have realized that part of trusting in the Lord is simply acting in faith to do more good. In other words, my prayers have been: “Though it is hard, Lord, I will trust you by reaching out even MORE to our city to do good. Though it is hard, Lord, I will trust you by doing more good in your church. Though it is hard, Lord, I will trust you by doing more good in my family. Though it is hard, Lord, I will trust you by doing more good for my neighbors.”

The promise here is sweet. As you trust in Him and act in accordance with Him in faith for good, He gives a sweet promise of security: “Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.” The Lord knows that trouble is hard. He knows that at times it’s a fight for faith. But, He gives us our instructions and His promise with them.

This week, if you doubt, or are struggling or fretting, act in faith. Trust Him in action — do something good for His names’ sake and rest in His promise of security.

Doing good,

Steele
