Are You Ready to Die?

by Steve McInroy

What would you do if you found out you only had 24 hours to live? Most of us would probably pray like crazy and desperately scramble to tell people that we love them, especially close friends and family.

Most likely, we would murmur something like, “I’m not ready to die.” Perhaps, you would want to hug and kiss your spouse or tell your children, and grandchildren, how eternally important it is for them to follow Jesus?! Our priority lists would only have room for the REALLY important things. Activities like balancing our bank accounts, mowing the lawn, getting a new car, planning a dream vacation, playing with the latest technology, eating right and exercising, would become non-issues. They would not begin to fit into our new equation for life.

Hopefully, God and people would quickly rise to the top of our list. These thoughts may seem unwelcome or even random. But in all reality, the clock is ticking and the Bible clearly states our time here is short. Death is real and headed our way. Psalm 144:4 (NASB) says, “Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow.”

Recently, God has gently reminded me how fragile life is. He has spoken into my heart with this verse — Luke 12:35, “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.” My day-to-day life needs to look more ready than it does, perhaps like what my 24-hour life span might look like?

May God give us grace to live life to the fullest, so that our lives today will begin to reflect the eternal life we are destined for. Take a moment to think about it; are YOU ready?

Getting ready,

Mac
