Our Father

“But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.” Isaiah 64:8

As we approach Father’s Day, I was reminded of how much I love being a Dad. It has also made me think of what an amazing Father we have in our God.

I adore my kids. Sometimes the love I have for my sons is unfathomable to me. I love to be with them. I love to wrestle with them and tickle them. I love to hear my oldest son tell his silly stories, and I just smile watching my youngest son stumble around like a drunken sailor as he learns to walk. They bring me tremendous joy! And then to think that the love that God has for me is even greater than the love I have for my boys, is just too much to handle. Zechariah 2:8 says that we are the apple of God’s eye — His most precious possession. What an incredible thing!

What parent doesn’t love seeing the delight a favorite food or activity brings to a toddler? James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father.” and Matthew 7:11 says, “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”

Unfortunately, not everyone we know has had a good example of an earthly father in their lives. But, we do have the perfect Father in God. Our Father leads us (Psalm 23), teaches us (Isaiah 28:26), trains us (Proverbs 3:12), and He holds us (Isaiah 41:13).

I am SO thankful for my good Father in heaven,

Caleb
