Resolution, A Word by Pastor Josh Whitney

Church, we have just started a new year — 2016. Many people make resolutions at the start of a new year — to eat healthier or exercise more. A resolution is defined as “a firm decision to do something”. Church, could I challenge all of you to make the resolution that 2016 is the year you read God’s Word every day? The Scripture promises us many benefits from studying God’s Word.

Do you want to be pure in our evil world?
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.” — Psalm 119:9

Do you want to have an answer for people who criticize you?
“Then shall I have an answer for him who taunts me, for I trust in your word.” — Psalm 119:42

Do you want to increase in knowledge and good judgment?
“Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.” — Psalm 119:66

Do you have to have strength in the midst of trials?
“If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.” — Psalm 119:92

Do you want to study something perfect?
“I have seen a limit to all perfection, but your commandment is exceedingly broad.” — Psalm 119:96

Do you want to be wiser than your elders?
“I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation.” — Psalm 119:99

Do you want to be able to see where you are going in life?
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

Psalm 119 continues to list the endless benefits of reading God’s Word. Many godly believers have read through the Bible over the course of a year. You can, too! On our Resource page (on our website), we offer a few different reading plans that can very helpful. Check them out.

Resolved,

Josh
