Wrought With God

I’m getting more and more excited (and honestly a little anxious) as I think about our upcoming short-term mission trip to Stockholm, Sweden (May 26 – June 5). Our team of seven people is certainly comprised of some very capable people and I’m convinced the Lord has been leading us from the start. Yet, the enormity of just seven of us flying half way across the world to share Jesus in a foreign land is somewhat terrifying. I think I’m beginning to realize the only sensible position for us is to be wrought with God.

The Stockholm region has over 2.2 million people and routinely offers permanent residency to Syrian refugees (there are over 30,000 refugees there now). Almost eight out of ten Swedes are either “not religious” or “convinced atheists”; they also tend to be introverted and keep to themselves. This poses a very interesting conundrum when thousands of people are looking for help in their city.

We believe this also poses a tremendous Gospel opportunity as we partner with a young woman and her church (they’re associated with Great Commission Churches). They love Jesus and want to make Him known. They are very excited to have us come and be used by God to influence their city for Christ.

I was recently yearning (somewhat desperately) for some encouragement from God’s Word to share with those going on this short-term mission trip. I wanted to build our confidence! It was then that I came across the phrase “wrought with God”. In the Amplified translation, John 3:21 says, “But he who practices truth [who does what is right] comes out into the Light; so that his works may be plainly shown to be what they are–wrought with God [divinely prompted, done with God’s help, in dependence upon Him].”

After doing more study on this verse, I really began to appreciate the description provided for what “wrought with God” means. It’s this simple — God will help us and the only sensible thing we can do is walk in faith and be completely dependent upon Him.

Wrought with God,

Mac
