Good, Close and Strong

Good, Close and Strong – a word by Pastor Steele Croswhite from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "...there was refuge. I was weak, but in this, he was strong. I felt fearful, but he was close. Despite the truth of the pain, he was good."

The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.” — Nahum 1:7

We have heard it over and over and over again: “What a year 2020 has been!” This is definitely true. Many of us have lived through circumstances we never could have predicted — and all in one year. In Utah, we have seen earthquakes, hurricane level winds, closed businesses, schools and churches. Because of the Coronavirus, many have experienced deep loss.

It has been a troubling year. This is the truth. But, just as true, is this verse I read just a few days ago — Nahum 1:7 “The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.”

Christian, we need this truth to ring out more clearly than the circumstances which have surrounded us. This verse tells us three, very important character qualities about God. It reminds us: God is GOOD, God is STRONG and God is CLOSE. Men and women, let these words comfort your heart. He is Good, He is Strong, and right now, He is Close.

Our Father is Here

As a young boy, I remember a time when I was truly frightened and in pain. I had been skateboarding with a few friends, when suddenly, I fell and broke my leg from my ankle to my knee. All of the boys around me did not know what to do; I was in too much pain to move and too scared to think. As I was lying on the cement, I heard the neighbor boy scream: “His dad is coming!”

Suddenly, I was swept up into the arms of someone who knew what to do. I was sacred, but there was a refuge. I was weak, but in this, he was strong. When I felt fearful, he was close. Despite the truth of the pain, he was good.

Christian, I understand that our circumstances today are much more serious than a broken bone. However, the Truth applies. No matter what we have encountered or what may come, we have a God who is good, strong and close. Right now, He knows exactly what to do and exactly what will come next. Open your eyes and ears — our Father is here, closer than you think!

Have a blessed week,

Steele
