Kingdom Seeking

How many of you can testify that this life can be totally crazy? For a lot of us, there is a ton going on! Between work, school, marriage, kids, grandkids, church, ministry opportunities, friends, family, health issues, home improvements, etc… our time and attention can be spread really thin.

When the chaos of life creeps in, I am often tempted to put my relationship with the Lord off to the side for the sake of getting “stuff” done. I can get so caught up in the “doings” of everyday life, that I neglect the one thing that is most important — seeking the Lord and His Kingdom! The words of Jesus have always convicted and encouraged me: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33

I feel like I need this verse tattooed on the inside of my eyelids. This is not merely a suggestion; it is a prescription for our broken hearts. Jesus knows that we are totally lost without Him and what we ultimately need is Him. He owns the world and everything in it — the cattle on a thousand hills. He created the heavens and the earth and has breathed life into our very bones. Whatever we need, He is capable of giving it to us!

Martin Luther once said, “I have so much business, I cannot get on without spending three hours daily in prayer.” He spent what is equivalent to a third of a typical workday in prayer. It changed the course of Christian history forever, affecting millions of lives.

When there is no time, when there is too much to do, when we are overwhelmed with life, let us seek the Lord and His kingdom first! I guarantee you, it’s worth it.

United,

Austin
