The Future

Early one morning, I was in my office reading, and my young son got out of bed and walked in. He informed me he needed to use the bathroom. I told him do it! I sat there reading for a few more minutes, and then I realized I never heard the toilet flush. So, I went upstairs to check on him, and he was quietly sitting on the toilet, waiting for me to help him “finish up” his business. I told him, “Son, you need to tell me these things, so I can help you.” He looked at me, deadly serious, and said, “Dad, no one knows the future but God.” I laughed and said, “You’re right.”

As I think back on the year that was 2014, I can think of many plans we had as a church: Draper Building, new church plant, new pastors, deacons and leaders, outreaches, and many more. As individuals, families, and a larger church family, parts of 2014 went exactly as we thought they would and many parts had nothing to do with our plans. To name a few as a church family: winning the Lasko Grant, leadership changes, delays in the church plant, partnering with a church on the West side, opening the Draper Church, health issues, moving, marital challenges, unexpected babies, and many, many more.

One year ago, if you had told me of all of the encouraging things AND all of the difficult things that would happen in 2014, I don’t know if I would have even believed you. But as we start 2015, I find this verse encouraging. Ephesians 1:11, “In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,”… My son was right, no one knows the future but God. And He is good!

Anticipating,

Josh
