Unheard of Love

by Bryan Edwards

Before I became a Christian, I had plenty of non-Christian friends who loved me. But, it was nothing like the love, support and compassion I received from my friends who were Believers. Over time, those Christian men and women had a tremendous impact on me. Their friendships changed my life. Jesus was the real game changer (of course), but those Christians who loved me, poured their lives into me, and were so patient with me, truly impacted me. That kind of love was unheard of to me. I’ll never be the same because of it.

Every time I read John 13:35 in my Bible, I’m reminded about how grateful I am for those people who loved a messy dude like me. “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, by your love for one another.” I experienced what that verse looked like in action. I witnessed first hand what a real disciple of Jesus looked like. Their love towards me was unlike anything I’d ever seen.

The same is true for you, friend. The love you show towards others truly demonstrates the impact that Jesus’ love has had on you. I understand that sometimes it’s very difficult to love people. Trust me, if there was ever a reason not to love somebody, I’ve met the requirement. But, isn’t that what makes the Gospel such Good News? Christ came to save messy, unlovable, sinners — that’s you and me! We all have reasons why Christ shouldn’t love us. Yet, He demonstrated love, mercy and grace towards us instead.

Have you been on the receiving end of an amazing display of love and compassion? Thank God for those people! Do you love others in ways that show the world you are His? I can assure you, it will have an amazing impact on them.
I know I’m grateful for the love that others have poured onto me.

Eternally grateful!

Bryan
