A few years after founding the church in Corinth, the Apostle Paul heard some disturbing reports. Church members were full of pride and overlooking sexual immorality. Spiritual gifts were being used improperly, and there was rampant misunderstanding of key Christian doctrines. Sadly, many of the problems and questions faced by the Corinthians are still present in the church today. Churches still struggle with divisions, immorality, and the proper use of spiritual gifts. In fact, the book of 1 Corinthians could have been written today. Paul’s rebukes and admonitions bring our focus right back to where it belongs — Jesus Christ — and we would do well to heed his warnings and apply them to ourselves!
