Before our visit, I tried to imagine what life is like for the Roma families living in the landfill. A place surrounded by trash. A place where hunger and struggle are daily realities. My heart ached knowing we were about to witness conditions so different from our own.
To prepare, we made over 100 sandwiches and assembled essential kits for the children. Our mission was to share the love of Christ. We led a Vacation Bible School centered on Romans 10:9, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

We met around 100 children. Many were barefoot, dirty, and living among garbage and broken glass. Yet, in the middle of the mess, God was present. We shared the Good News, handed out food, and distributed care packages. A local pastor, faithfully serving this community, encouraged us.
My heart breaks knowing places like this exist. But God sees them. His grace reaches them.
The physical mess of the landfill reminded me of the brokenness we all carry. Our surroundings may differ, but every heart needs restoration. Only God can clean up our lives.
Salvation is a free gift—for the dirty, the broken, and every one of us. God’s love knows no boundaries.
