Merry Christmas, Rock Church family!
I think this December has flown by faster than the rest of the year combined! Between all the parties, shopping, school events, movie nights, and church gatherings, the Christmas season sure has a way of eating up a lot of our time and energy. (And hear me when I say NONE of those things are bad!) They are absolutely wonderful gifts.
But if we’re not careful, we can get ourselves so busy doing Christmas ‘things’ that we don’t make room for the main thing: Christ Himself.
Matthew 1:21 gives Believers the “why” for the season,
“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
And the angels declared to the shepherds in Luke 2:11,
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, Who is Christ the Lord.”
The shepherds that day understood this. When the Messiah appeared, they did not find themselves too busy and distracted. They made haste and pursued baby Jesus until they found Him. And when they did, “they fell down and worshiped Him” — Matthew 2:11
Your Invitation To Worship
So, here is the invitation for you as Christmas rapidly approaches: Enjoy everything. The gifts and the matching pajamas. And the children’s programs and the Christmas carols. Along with the food, friends, and laughter!
But don’t let those things replace your worship.
Be intentional to slow down the rhythm of the season long enough to worship.
Make space to sit with the Word of God.
Also, take time to gather with your loved ones and worship the Immanuel with one another.
The Savior has come. Make room for Him. He’s worth it.
