I still remember someone handing me a palm branch when I was about seven years old at my grandmother’s Presbyterian church. Since I didn’t grow up going to church, I had no idea why everyone had these branches. Years later, after becoming a Christian, I realized Palm Sunday marks the beginning of one of the most important weeks in all of human history.
Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ. But this week points us to something even greater — the moment Jesus willingly walked toward the Cross to bring salvation to the world.
Nearly 2,000 years ago, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a colt, just as the prophet Zechariah foretold. Crowds waved palm branches and shouted, “Hosanna!” welcoming Him as King. It was the first time Jesus openly allowed Himself to be publicly declared the Messiah.
And yet, only days later, that same city would cry out for His death.
Why?
Because Jesus was not simply a teacher with good ideas. He made astonishing claims. He said, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). And He declared Himself to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Jesus wasn’t offering a new religion — He was offering Himself.
The Lamb and The King
Palm Sunday reminds us that Jesus came with a mission—to lay down His life for sinners like us. Scripture says, “Christ died for sins once for all… to bring you to God” (1 Peter 3:18). He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
The question is not whether Jesus changed history — He clearly did. The calendar revolves around Him, and He has transformed millions of lives.
The real question is this: Will His Grace transform you?
Romans 12:2 reminds us that the renewing of our minds changes us. So as we enter Holy Week, don’t rush past this moment. Don’t miss “the day of God’s coming to you.”
Jesus is not only the King who entered Jerusalem. He is the Savior who entered our brokenness.
And because He lives, He can make your life — and your eternity — new.
Are you ready to meet him?
Hosanna in the highest!
Reflection Questions for Today
1. Where do you most need the Grace of Jesus in your life right now?
2. Is there an area of your life where you need to fully welcome Jesus as King—not just admire Him from a distance?
3. How can you intentionally focus your heart on Jesus during Holy Week rather than rushing past it?
