The Bible claims that it is the Word of God. This remarkable claim demands remarkable evidence.
And Scripture actually provides that evidence: historical accuracy, textual unity, fulfilled prophecy… and even what we might call anachronistic insight.
An anachronism is something that appears in the wrong time period. For instance, it’s like someone discovering knowledge long before anyone actually knew it.
Here’s one example.
In Job 38:25, God responds to Job by asking a series of questions:
“Who has cleft a channel for the torrents of rain and a way for the thunderbolt?”
A way for the thunderbolt?
That’s an interesting phrase. God describes lightning as having a path—something directed, along with something structured.
And remember: Job is one of the oldest books in the Bible, written thousands of years ago.
So, Why Does This Matter?
Modern science has discovered that before a lightning strike, something called a stepped leader forms. This is an invisible, negatively charged channel that moves from the cloud toward the ground at incredible speed. At around 200,000 miles per hour, it creates a branching path that the lightning then follows.
In simple terms, lightning doesn’t just happen randomly. It travels along a path.
A path.
Exactly what Job described thousands of years ago.
Now, you can shrug that off. Or perhaps, you can ask the obvious question:
“How would anyone have known that?”
There were certainly no high-speed cameras. No electrical studies. Obviously, no modern science.
Again, “How would anyone have known that?”
Unless…God told them.
This is obviously just one small example. However, it adds to a much bigger case: the Bible contains knowledge that no human author possessed at the time.
The next time you see a lightning storm, don’t just watch it. On the contrary, think about it.
Consider the power of God… and the precision of His Word.
