A Story of Forgiveness at Jericho House

Comments Off on A Story of Forgiveness at Jericho House

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. — Psalm 147:3

One of the girls at Jericho House shared her story with our Honduras Mission Team, and it was one I won’t soon forget.

After losing her father to alcoholism, Carlita’s life became incredibly difficult. Her mother refused to work and sent Carlita and her siblings out to beg on the streets. That’s when Albia stepped in and brought them into Jericho House. Carlita was only six years old when she arrived. Seeing her now at sixteen and hearing her share what God has done in her life is incredible.

Her journey hasn’t been easy. It has been marked by deep hurts from her mother and, more recently, a season of defiance toward Albia and the staff who have cared for her. But during a recent retreat, Carlita felt God speak directly to her heart.

She wept as the message of forgiveness finally clicked. In that moment, she chose to forgive her mother for all the pain she had caused her. When Carlita returned to Jericho House, she gave Albia a big hug and apologized for her behavior.

Hearing Carlita share her story brought me to tears. It made me look at my own struggles with forgiveness, especially knowing that no one has ever hurt me a fraction of the amount she endured as a child.

God is so good in the way He heals our deepest hurts, teaches us to forgive, and builds resilience in His people. Stories like Carlita’s are a beautiful reminder that God is at work here in Honduras, bringing hope and healing even out of incredibly painful circumstances.

I’m so grateful the Lord brought me to Honduras and allowed me to witness life-changing stories like this firsthand.

Loving God’s people,

Sheyenne Barlow
