This New Year and The Future

“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” — Psalm 90:12 (ESV)

Here we are again, almost to New Year’s Day. Where did 2025 go? The upcoming year certainly reminds us of the swift passage of time.

I’m not sure exactly what state of mind you are in as you’re reading this devotional. I don’t know your specific excitement or trepidation for the new year. However, as a pastor, I know that many (most) (ALL?) people have seen pain and loss in 2025. Either firsthand or through the experiences of close loved ones.

In the verses above, Moses makes a wise prayer to lift his head from the circumstances right in his face. He asks God to help him see the big picture, and that He has limited our time on the earth.

For the Believer, we remember that the good we have on earth is temporary and even better awaits. And also, that the excruciating pain we see will not last forever. Indeed, we have a hope and a future to hold onto.

Our ultimate view should be eternal. This brings our life here into perspective. It also helps us see that another year gone here is another year closer to being with Jesus forever.

God With Us This Year

As the Christmas season just reminded us, God is with us. He will be with us every minute of every day in 2026. In the midst of the known and the unknown. Through the incoming trials and upcoming celebrations. Our God is always with us

I pray that fact will comfort you and bring you peace. I hope it will encourage you and grow your faith. And most of all, I anticipate it will embolden you to walk out the God-given purpose for this year: to be His ambassador in our lost and broken world.

God gave this promise to Isaiah, and it encourages me about the God we serve. The One who walks with us. I trust it will encourage you as well this new year.

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

God is with us. He has limited our days left on this earth. May we be wise to count our days and fully trust the One who holds those days in His hand.

Happy New Year!

Grace and peace,

Caleb
