For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. — Ephesians 2:10
This trip has been both exhilarating and mentally exhausting—in the very best possible way! Each day has felt like a week. It’s as though we’re living in a strange and wonderful time warp.
When we landed in Comayagua, I discovered that my daughter, Beverly, had developed cellulitis from a bug bite she got in Utah. It was discouraging to face a medical issue before we even left the airport, but thankfully, antibiotics quickly took care of it, and we were able to move forward with the mission.
On our first full clinic day, we saw around 120 patients. We worked in a very old building with no electricity, surrounded by shacks along the roadside where people are simply doing their best to make a life. It was a powerful reminder of why our Honduras Mission Team is here—to offer medical care, share the love of Jesus, and serve people however we can.
Of all the patients we’ve seen so far, only one required hospitalization. She had a bowel obstruction, a life-threatening condition even under the best of circumstances. I explained the seriousness of her situation and what could lie ahead.
Her response was something I will never forget.
She blessed me and thanked God for bringing me to her. She told me she knew the Lord had sent me there to care for her and that she trusted Him with whatever happened next. That moment will always stay with me.
There is something profoundly beautiful about witnessing the Lord meet someone in the middle of suffering. We can’t always change a person’s circumstances or the outcome, but we can sit with them, care for them, and remind them they are not alone.
What a gift it is to see God working in the hearts of the people here in Honduras, even in the midst of pain and uncertainty.
I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be here, to serve these beautiful people, and to step into the good works the Lord prepared for us ahead of time. Again and again, He is reminding me that He was already at work before we arrived. We simply have the privilege of joining Him in it.
Faithfully yours in Christ,
Grace Beldock
