  1. Live Worthy of the Gospel

Live Worthy of the Gospel — a word by Pastor Bill Young from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "So, make it your ambition this week to live worthy of the Gospel. Not to get Grace, but because God has already given it to you."

I have had many people (of other faiths) try to challenge my belief in Grace. They say things like, “Pastor Bill, it seems like many Christians claim they just pray a prayer, and even if they live like hell, they go to heaven. That doesn’t seem fair.”

It’s an honest question. And if Grace simply meant “say a few magic words and do whatever you want,” I’d agree. That definitely wouldn’t seem fair at all.

    But that’s not the Gospel.

  2. The Best Gift You’ll Ever Receive

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” — John 3:16  (NIV84)

Hi, Rock Church Family! As we step into this new year, I wanted to take a moment to remind us of something. We talked about it a couple of weeks ago during our Christmas series. And honestly, for me, reminders are always a good thing (especially as I’m getting older :-)).

  3. Rescued By Grace Alone

Comments Off on Rescued By Grace Alone
Rescued By Grace Alone — a word by Pastor Bryan from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "Grace Alone) means we don’t live like someone who believes they have achieved something great. Instead, we live like those rescued"

We all love that feeling of accomplishment. Knowing we’ve put in some hard work and can see the good results. It’s true whether it’s a big win or just a job well done. Feeling good about our achievements (and even a little pat on our own back) is totally fine in many parts of life. But, when it comes to our salvation, the Bible makes it crystal clear. There’s absolutely nothing we contribute that gives us any room for our boasting.

The Latin phrase “Sola Gratia” (Grace Alone) often captures this core truth. It means our salvation is entirely a gift of God’s amazing grace. It’s certainly not a reward for anything we’ve done.

  4. Post-Tensioned Slabs

Post-Tensioned Slabs — a word by Pastor Josh Whitney from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. But, like post-tensioned slabs, God has given us our unique gifts to specifically strengthen each other where we are weak.

“Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” — Ephesians 4:15-16

I had lunch with a friend the other day. As we talked, he said something about “P.T. slabs.” With my engineering background, I knew he was obviously talking about post-tensioned slabs. But, I told him, most people would not understand that. We then shared a laugh.

  5. Beyond Imagination

In Titus 3:7, the Apostle Paul mentions two things that are so remarkable. In fact, when you read them, it feels almost too good to be true:

“So that being justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Titus 3:7

I want to consider two truths:

    Truth #1: We are Justified.

    Truth #2:  We are Heirs.

  6. What Do You Want?

What Do You Want? – a word from Pastor Bill Young from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "Jesus IS asking us that very question each day, “What do you want ME to do for YOU?” Of course, He knows precisely what we want"

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” — Matthew 7:7-8 (NIV84)

We recently asked our kids for Christmas gift ideas. Some of them went above and beyond the call of duty. They sent us their “Wish List” from Amazon! Welcome to the technology age. This electronic wish list certainly proved to be very helpful. Specifically, it showed us that our kids took our request seriously; they knew what they wanted. I think God wants us to have the same heart attitude.

  7. He Delights in You

He Delights in You – a word by Pastor Steele Croswhite from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "Do you think He delights in you any less? Not at all! In fact, His love, plan, path for your life, is higher than you could ever imagine."

As I write this, I am waiting to surprise my kids. They don’t know it yet, but we have decided to cancel school today and take them to Lagoon. We can’t wait to see the look on their faces when we say, “Instead of school, we thought it would be fun to go on roller coasters.” The entire week (for my wife and me) has largely revolved around this fun surprise.

There is no special reason for “Lagoon day”. The only reward is to hear their voices laugh with excitement, see their smiling faces and delight their hearts.

  8. Long Shot

Long Shot – a word by Pastor Billy Johnson from The Rock church in Draper, UT. "I’m convinced that the only reason my long shot happened, is because God was behind it every step of the way."

When my co-worker asked me if I’d be interested in helping him with electrical work for a church remodel, my first thought was that it was a long shot. Why? Because the church was in Hawaii! My co-worker (who is also a Christian) is good friends with the pastor of the Hawaiian church.
