Promises

I’ve been convicted about God’s promises in the Bible. While there is no “official” count of the number of His promises to mankind, the most widely cited figure is 7,487. This comes from a meticulous study by a Canadian schoolteacher, Everett R. Storms. He spent one and a half years tallying them. This happened during his 27th reading of the Bible. Without a doubt, that’s a lot of promises.

The Beauty in the Slow Work of God

It doesn’t matter whether you’re an artist with a canvas or a parent raising kids. Maybe you’re a teacher shaping young minds or simply someone trying to live faithfully day by day? No matter what scenario you’re in, creation takes time. Beauty rarely happens all at once. It’s slow. Also, it’s layered. Along with that, it takes shaping, waiting, and sometimes starting over.

God models that same rhythm in Creation. In Genesis, He doesn’t rush. Each day always has a purpose. Light comes first. Then sky. And then land. Each stage builds upon the last. Finally, He steps back and calls it good. Without a doubt, there’s something profoundly intentional about that process. He shows us that the best work unfolds in time.

“Radical Parenting” Conference

It’s critical that we get radical in our parenting approaches if we are going to raise godly kids in this broken world. An incredible amount of time, money, and energy goes into raising them and we want to do it right. But, we live in a world that doesn’t really know how to help. Fortunately for us, God’s Word has a number of key principles for radical/godly parenting.

Impeccable Manners

“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life” — Philippians 2:14

A few weeks ago, my wife had a great idea. As an end of the year “thank you” gift, she baked a plate of cookies for our older son’s school bus driver. She sent the cookies with Kael and Aiden in the morning. Later that afternoon, they came home with a note from their bus driver:

Exercising the Gift of “No”

We’ve all lived it and we’ve all seen it. A child doing something they shouldn’t be doing and the parent telling them to stop. The child either pretends not to hear (or shoots a look of defiance) before going back to what their parent told them not to do. What happens next?

A Higher Calling for our Families

“Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children— how on the day that you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, the Lord said to me, ‘Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children so.’” — Deuteronomy 4:9-10

Dads: Plead, Encourage, Urge

The Great Adventure Series

Getting married and raising a family can often resemble a family road trip! With so much excitement and anticipation to get started, we almost can’t wait. But, we must not forget the preparing and planning that needs to happen first. You’ll need clear direction as you encounter challenges and difficulties. Pure and Simple Daily Devotion

I just had a chance to work through our family schedule with my sweet wife. It’s one of those weeks where all of our evenings (and most of our days) are filled up Monday through Friday.

I am thankful to have such a full life, but at times, it can feel a little bit (okay, a lot) overwhelming. This is especially true when you add kids into the mix.

Out of the War Zone and Into Peace

Hey, Parents –

You guys are heroes. You are involved in the greatest work of your life and your kids are so blessed to have you as their mom and dad. I mean it!

I’m not sure about you, but sometimes it seems like my children’s favorite words to each other are things like, “Stop it!”, “That’s mine!” or “NO!”

How many times have we heard this?
