  1. Run the Race!

Run the Race! — a word by Pastor Steve McInroy from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "Run the race by always keeping your eyes on Jesus! We are all getting closer and closer to the finish line."

I think God has placed an innate sense of competition in our DNA (somewhere). This also includes a desire to run the race. Obviously, there’s more competition and desire in some people than others. Along with that, the race can mean a plethora of things to each of us. But one thing is certainly true. We undoubtedly all want to win. Nobody hopes to use their thumb and index finger to place an L on their forehead.

While a young boy, I believed I was very fast. As a young man, I was definitely full of myself. Consequently, I would sometimes challenge other men to a foot race. This typically happened at parties and get-togethers. I’d even challenge the occasional woman. In fact, my wife was one of them; we were both very competitive. I beat her handily, by the way. Alas, as age takes its cruel toll on us, we all slow down. Even the next generation eventually replaces professional athletes.

  2. Breaking Walls

Breaking Barriers — a word by Pastor Tony D'Amico from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "border walls, paywalls, and also social-media echo chambers. Two thousand years ago, Paul wrote about one of history’s most infamous walls"

Admittedly, the news cycle loves walls—border walls, paywalls, and also social-media echo chambers. Two thousand years ago, Paul wrote about one of history’s most infamous walls: a five-foot stone balustrade in Herod’s temple. It warned Gentiles, “Enter and die.” In Ephesians (2:14-18), he stunned his readers with the headline: “Christ has destroyed the dividing wall of hostility.” In fact, the claim still shatters our walls today.

  3. Even Me?

Even Me? — a word by Pastor Steele Croswhite from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "Oh, that we might see Jesus. Even now, we must ponder what He thinks of us over anything or anyone else. Astonished, amazed, and delighted,"

Then Jesus said to her, “I am the MESSIAH!” – John 4:26

Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite encounters in the entire Bible. You remember the story. In the Gospel of John, Jesus passed through a region called Samaria on His way to Galilee. As the reader, we should by all means know that (at this time in history) the Samaritan people were despised by the Jewish people. The Jews considered the Samaritans to be inferior economically, racially, spiritually, and socially. In fact, they were “the dogs” and often even hated.

Look Ahead! — a word by Pastor Tony D'Amico from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "A key lesson from these sports is the importance of looking ahead. It sounds simple, but it’s critical. You have to keep your eyes focused"

I’ve always had a passion for all things boards. From the freedom of skateboarding through city parks to carving fresh powder on snow-capped mountains. Not to mention the rhythm of surfing ocean waves. Without a doubt, it’s a thrill like no other. I love feeling the wind rushing against my face. Strangely, times like this are also when I find myself in deep prayer. Yes, you read that right; I absolutely connect with God profoundly while gliding on a board!

  5. Chosen

Chosen – a word by Pastor Billy Johnson from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "We shouldn’t grumble for not having the worldly positions and possessions others have. Instead, we need to thank God that we are His chosen"

In Numbers 16, we read about some men who rebelled against Moses and Aaron. They were angry and envious of Moses and Aaron’s position among the congregation of Israel. Also, they assumed that Moses and Aaron were making themselves out to be more holy than the rest of Israel. Along with that, these rebels wanted to be recognized as great men, also. However, instead of humbly going to the Lord about their thoughts, they grumbled and rebelled.

  6. With All Your Heart

With All Your Heart – a word by Pastor Steele Croswhite from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart."

“You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.” — 1 Peter 1:22

How many times a day do you hear the word “love”? It seems like I hear that word in every other sentence: “I love this song.”, “I love Chipotle.”, “I love Nike shoes.”, “I love what you’ve done with the place.”

  7. Running The Race

    Running The Race

I am one of those people who enjoys running. I like to put myself through the pain and agony of long, (endurance testing) races. Typically, you sign up for that kind of race six months in advance. You need plenty of time to train, mentally prepare, and to do the kind of research needed to make sure you don’t injure yourself during the race. You hope for: amazing weather, no injuries, no shoe problems, no chaffing, and that you don’t lose any toenails (believe me, that’s a concern). The list could go on and on….
