  1. Trusting God for the Growth

Comments Off on Trusting God for the Growth
Trusting God for the Growth — a word by Pastor Caleb Yetton from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "God is ultimately in charge of the growth. He alone knows someone’s heart. Yet He calls us to be faithful."

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.” — 1 Corinthians 3:6–7

Seventeen of us recently returned from a 10-day short-term mission trip to the Winter Olympics in Arco and Milan, Italy. Throughout our time there, we saw God show up in incredible ways. Whether at our TRM concerts or through street busking evangelism, many on our team had meaningful Gospel conversations. I am still processing all the ways we saw and experienced God’s provision, goodness, and sovereign plan.

  2. Your First Love

Comments Off on Your First Love

“But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first.” — Revelation 2:4-5a

I read this verse recently, and it brought some deep conviction to my heart. The Lord sets the context of these verses when He speaks to some Believers in the final days. In this particular example, He praised them for their “hard work”, “patient endurance,” and “protection of the Truth.” But He complained that the Church had lost its first love — Jesus Himself.

  3. Prepare Him Room

Prepare Him Room — a word by Pastor Bryan Edwards from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "If we’re not careful, we can get ourselves so busy doing Christmas ‘things’ that we don't make room the main thing: Christ Himself."

    Merry Christmas, Rock Church family!

I think this December has flown by faster than the rest of the year combined! Between all the parties, shopping, school events, movie nights, and church gatherings, the Christmas season sure has a way of eating up a lot of our time and energy. (And hear me when I say NONE of those things are bad!) They are absolutely wonderful gifts.

But if we’re not careful, we can get ourselves so busy doing Christmas ‘things’ that we don’t make room for the main thing: Christ Himself.

  4. Lessons from the Life of Obed-Edom

Comments Off on Lessons from the Life of Obed-Edom
Lessons from the Life of Obed-Edom — a word from Pastor Bill Young from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "Lord, like Obed-Edom, may I welcome Your presence with awe and joy. Let Your Spirit shape my home, my habits, and my heart."

Imagine along with me. You wake up to find someone has delivered the Ark of the Covenant (the sacred symbol of God’s very presence) to your house for safekeeping (by Amazon). That’s exactly what happened to a man named Obed-Edom. Well, not the Amazon part.

Let me back up a bit. King David and his men were transporting the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. A tragic incident occurred when Uzzah improperly handled the Ark and died (1 Chronicles 13). King David halted the Ark’s journey and left it in the home of Obed-Edom. What happened next has always amazed me:

  6. In Order

    Comments Off on In Order

We’ve all been there. Standing in the office supply aisle with a few items we just know are going to help us be more organized and productive. In fact, just standing there makes us feel a little more productive than we did in the condiment aisle, doesn’t it? We’re taking steps to get our lives in order.

Naturally, nobody likes it when their lives are chaotic and out of control. It’s uncomfortable at the least and terrifying under certain circumstances. Of course, we want order in our lives; we even have one-liners like “there’s a method to my madness” to explain it. Additionally, God created us in His image. That’s why we don’t like disorder or chaos in the things going on around us, either. This is because our God is not a God of disorder but of peace. (1 Cor. 14:33 NIV)

  7. But Let the One Who Boasts…

But Let the One Who Boasts… — a word by Pastor Steele Croswhite from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord,"

“This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.” — Jeremiah 9:23-24

Without a doubt, we live in a culture full of boasting, don’t we? There is no need to go further than our phones, computers, news feeds, billboards, television, radio (or even our mirrors) to see how prevalent boasting is.

  9. Astounded

Astounded — a word by Pastor Steele Croswhite from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "I was astounded not just by what I was hearing but also by how Jesus had aligned this incredible encounter to begin with."

There is nothing quite like being astounded by Jesus. Obviously, Jesus is always amazing, but sometimes, in our faith journey, He occasionally orchestrates something genuinely astounding.

In July, The Rock Church Youth Group attended our annual DTC (Discipleship Training Camp) in Colorado. It was a tremendous few days where our young men and women played tons of games, sang songs, and laughed with friends. What is more, they learned the biblical roadmap for godly manhood and womanhood. For this particular DTC, the men and women were in two separate camps — about an hour away from each other.

  10. Even Me?

Even Me? — a word by Pastor Steele Croswhite from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "Oh, that we might see Jesus. Even now, we must ponder what He thinks of us over anything or anyone else. Astonished, amazed, and delighted,"

Then Jesus said to her, “I am the MESSIAH!” – John 4:26

Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite encounters in the entire Bible. You remember the story. In the Gospel of John, Jesus passed through a region called Samaria on His way to Galilee. As the reader, we should by all means know that (at this time in history) the Samaritan people were despised by the Jewish people. The Jews considered the Samaritans to be inferior economically, racially, spiritually, and socially. In fact, they were “the dogs” and often even hated.
