Not Alone

“But from then on, only half my men worked while the other half stood guard with spears, shields, bows, and coats of mail. The leaders stationed themselves behind the people of Judah who were building the wall. The laborers carried on their work with one hand supporting their load and one hand holding a weapon. All the builders had a sword belted to their side. The trumpeter stayed with me to sound the alarm.” Nehemiah 4:16-18

Recently, I was very blessed to be in community with some of my fellow pastors in our region of churches. The time was largely spent talking about what God was doing in our local body of believers, as well as time discussing ideas of how we might all spread the Gospel more effectively.

During that time, a particular teaching didn’t necessarily impact me, nor was I overwhelmed by our times of singing and worship. But, as a group of us gathered in the van to head home from Colorado, I felt that the greatest take away for me was that “we’re not alone”. Like these verses in Nehemiah express (as pastors and churches) we are involved in a great work, with a great enemy. But, greater still is our God who binds us together in His good work.

I was encouraged by the FACT that there are more people involved in the great cause of the Gospel than I tend to remember. There is a deep urgency and joy in other men and women across the entire world who have dedicated their lives to living for Jesus and others.

This week, in the midst of your work and your commitment to the Gospel, look around and be encouraged that you are not alone. Look to your church, look to your Small Group, look to the cause for Christianity across the globe. Remember that while you may have a “weapon in one hand while carrying your load in the other” you are not alone!

With you,

Steele
