Reminder, a Word by Pastor Bryan D. Edwards of The Rock Church, a non-denominational christian church, in Salt Lake City Draper Utah

Thanks to my iPhone, I am constantly reminded about what’s going on in my life. My calendar reminds me about meetings I need to attend and bills that need to be paid. Facebook reminds me about memories from five years ago. And countless sports apps notify me on player injuries, game times, and the latest trade rumors. Better still is that I don’t really have to think to be reminded; they just ‘POP-UP’ on my phone. Instant reminder.

Today, you are going to get lots of updates, notifications, and reminders as well. I’m going to assume not many of them will be God-focused. So, in the midst of all of that, I’d like to encourage you today by being your ‘POP-UP’ reminder!

Here are three truths about God:

God loves you.
“Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In LOVE” — Ephesians 1:4

  • From before time began, God pronounced that He would express His grace, mercy, and love towards you by sending His Son into the world to save you. This is the truth for all who have come to trust in Jesus. This means that even at your absolute WORST, God still chose to express His great love towards you. What a wonderful reminder to know we have become eternally united to Jesus Christ!

God is trustworthy.
“And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.” — Psalm 9:10

  • From Genesis to Revelation, God has always been there for His people. When life feels like it has us up against the wall, we can remember that this promise is for us as well. We are His chosen people — His children by adoption. He promises not to forsake us and will work all things for good in our lives. In all our uncertainty and sorrows, we must remind ourselves that we are never alone. Jesus Himself has promised to walk with us through every trial when He said (“I am with you always.” Matthew 28:20) It’s a necessary reminder for us to know that there is no one more faithful and trustworthy than Jesus!

God will bring you home.
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.” — 1 Corinthians 2:9

  • This life and all its troubles will one day pass. There will be a day when Jesus returns to judge all the wrong in this world and restore all things to Himself. And on that day, He will usher us into our new home where there will be no more tears, pain, or sorrow. (Revelation 21:4). And best yet, we will physically be in His presence — FOREVER! In heaven, we will see Him face to face. We’ll see the wonderful Savior who laid down His life to save us; He has promised to deliver us safely home!

These are just a few reminders that are worth spending a LIFETIME thinking about! I invite you today to spend a few minutes in prayer, reminding yourself (and thanking God for) these three incredible truths:

  1. God loves you!
  2. God is trustworthy!
  3. God will bring you home!

God bless you,

Bryan
