More for Christmas

A few years ago, during the weeks leading up to Christmas, the presents under our tree were beginning to stack up. As a rule, we never put ALL the presents out early — we always hold back some for the special reveal on Christmas morning. After one of my wife’s gift-wrapping marathons, our youngest boy hugged her and said, “Thanks for not putting all the presents under the tree, Mom.” You see, he wanted to be surprised on Christmas morning!

I think we can all relate to this innate desire to be surprised with more. I’m convinced that we long for more because we were created for more than what this world has to offer. This life can leave us feeling cold and unsatisfied. In his classic book, “Mere Christianity”, CS Lewis wrote, “If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.”

It’s true, we were made for a new world! And that’s why Jesus was born — to die for our sins so we could be with Him forever in heaven. Remind yourself that this life can only offer temporary happiness and limited satisfaction. God has so much more for us in the future and it will be revealed to us in a very special way. Jesus alone provides us more; it’s ours for the asking.

Looking forward to more,

Bill
