More Time for God’s Word

Over the last two months of self-distancing and home quarantine, we’ve never had more time on our hands. My family and I have certainly enjoyed this extra time together. Aside from the fact that I have watched more princess and super hero movies than most people have seen in a lifetime, I’d say things are going okay. As I ponder this extra time that has fallen into many of our laps, I think it’s worth asking ourselves, “Has this season allowed me to spend more time with God and His Word?”

I’d like to remind you of a few benefits that the Believer receives for their devotion to God’s Word.

I. God has given us His Word to guide us.

  • “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

Would you ever go on a hike in the dark with no flashlight or compass to guide you? That’s what it’s like go through our day without the Bible to guide us. Make every effort to allow God’s Word to illuminate and direct your steps each day.

II. Reading and Hearing God’s Word will increase your faith.

  •  “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” — Romans 10:17

When the battery in your phone runs out of juice, what do you do? Simple. You plug it in and charge it back up! The same goes for our faith. God’s Word is like the battery charger that fills us up and increases our life with the faith we need every day. Plug into your Bible like your faith depends on it — it does!

III. God’s Word Gives Peace

  • “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” — Isaiah 26:3

It seems like with every news headline, it’s rare to read something that’s actually peaceful. Unlike all the bad news we can see and read about these days, our Bible is filled with Good News from start to finish. Tune into God’s Word and focus your thoughts on the Lord every day. His Word brings a “perfect peace” that nothing in the world compares to.

These are just a few of the many reasons that we, as Believers, should invest in the amount of time we spend with the Lord. As time seems to be something we all have a lot more of lately, my heart is to encourage you to dive deeply into the benefits of God’s Word. Not just today, but every day.
