In the Midst of the Chaos – a word by Pastor Caleb Yetton from The Rock Church in Draper, Utah. "We were forced to adjust on the fly. The Lord recently used my nearly two-year old daughter, Joan, to teach me a valuable lesson in the midst of this chaos."

This has certainly been an interesting couple of months in our history, am I right? Our typical routines were thrown out the window and we were forced to adjust on the fly. The Lord recently used my nearly two-year old daughter, Joan, to teach me a valuable lesson in the midst of the chaos.

It was a pretty typical afternoon at our house. My boys had finished school for the day and were getting some playtime. This quickly escalated into a full out wrestling match, as usual. All of a sudden, music was booming from the speakers, there was the sound of grunting and screaming (like Hulk Hogan) and my three boys were jumping from every ledge they could find in the living room.

To guard her against the pandemonium, I took Joan downstairs to our front room. I sat on the steps and set her down to play with toys. But, to my surprise, instead of going to the seemingly endless toy options, my daughter came and sat down beside me on the bottom step. When I looked down at her, she was looking up at me with the biggest, cutest smile. She was perfectly content to sit with me in the midst of the disorder going on around her.

This went on for about 20 minutes. She would occasionally get up and walk around the room looking at the toys; then she would return back to our step and put her hand on my knee. This was obviously a delight to her father’s heart — even for that short amount of time. In the midst of the chaos happening upstairs, there was a precious peace between my daughter and me.

Sit with your Father

In times like we’re living in, it’s easy to get pulled into the distractions around us. While we are homebound, social media, news and entertainment companies are throwing everything they have at us in order to get our attention. We can become consumed by all of it and neglect to sit and look up at our Father.

Jeremiah 29:12-13 promises when we seek Him, we will find Him and He will listen to us. Not only do we get the peace of meeting with Him, but our Father delights in us being with Him! In Isaiah 43:4 the Lord tells us that we are precious and honored in His eyes and He loves us.

Christian, I want to encourage you this week to find time to sneak away from all the noise and sit with your Father. In the midst of the chaos, look to Him and rest in His presence. He will smile back at you.

Grace and peace,

Caleb
