Battle Ready – a word by Pastor Bryan Edwards from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "We are commanded to prepare our minds for action. Here are a few simple, daily practices to help you be mentally “battle ready”."

As Christians, we are commanded to prepare our minds for action, as a soldier prepares for battle. In light of this, here are a few simple, daily practices to help you be mentally “battle ready” for whatever arrows may fly your way.

Read God’s Word Daily.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

Would you ever go on a hike (in the middle of the night) while blindfolded? That’s what it’s like to walk through life without guidance and instruction from God’s Word. It doesn’t make sense. Do whatever it takes to read your Bible EVERY SINGLE DAY. And don’t do it just to get through it. Instead, read with a heart that anticipates God MOVING through you.

Talk to God Daily.

“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek His presence continually!” — 1 Chronicles 16:11

Prayer is our ALL ACCESS pass to spend time with the Maker of heaven and earth. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (aka: our Father). We can approach God with full confidence, knowing He cares about our lives and helps us. There is nothing stronger than His strength. Certainly, we should rest in that comfort every day.

Connect with God’s Family Daily.

“And all who believed were together and had all things in common.” — Acts 2:44

Find yourself some brothers and sisters who are fully invested in you. Commit to being fully invested in them. God has given you a wonderful family to encourage and support you. Consequently, lean on them for strength. Whether it’s through Small Groups, phone calls, or text messages… make the effort. Carve time into your schedule to be involved and engaged in the lives of others.

The Lord has not called us to walk through the battle field of life without armor. He gave us His Word, prayer and people. “Put on” these things every day. As a result, you will be battle ready for whatever this life may bring!
