A Heart of Thanks – a word by Pastor Steele Croswhite from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "though He is pleased with our “service” to Him, what honors Him, what brings a smile to His face even more, is our heartfelt thanks to Him."

“He who sacrifices thank offerings honors me….” — Psalm 50:23 (NIV84)

I really love serving God. I absolutely mean it. My heart longs to do more for Him. I love serving His people and playing music for Him. I love knowing Him more and more. Each day, I seek to bring honor to God by serving Him.

That being said, this verse in Psalm 50 has recently really impacted me. Prior to verse 23, God reminds His people that though they “sacrifice” to Him, what really brings Him honor is giving thanks to Him.

WOW!! What an amazing God!! In other words, though He is pleased with our “service” to Him, what honors Him, what brings a smile to His face even more, is our heartfelt thanks to Him. When was the last time you really thanked God? This verse challenged me. I mean, I thank God often, but it had been a while since I really thanked Him.

Thanking Him

Recently, I decided to spend my morning’s prayer time only thanking God. At first, I thanked Him for the obvious things like my salvation and family. However, after a few minutes, I found myself thanking Him even for the coffee I was drinking. Through thanksgiving, He drew me out.

He reminded me that everything I have is truly a gift from Him. Additionally, it was clear that He is worthy of my worship and praise — beyond the gifts He gives. He is worthy because He is God.

This week, spend some time thanking God. As well as honoring Him, it will bless you!!
