New Bodies

New Bodies – a word by Pastor Steve McInroy from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "I think it’s spiritually healthy (and worth the time) to consider our new bodies to come. They’ll be made by God Himself. "

I’m ready for a new body. How about you? Maybe (like me) your body is experiencing the effects of over doing it a bit while celebrating Resurrection Day last weekend? As I get older, I often yearn for the new body God promises us in the Bible. Read this:

“For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 2 We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing. 3 For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits without bodies. 4 While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life.” — 2 Corinthians 5:1-4 (NLT)

These verses reveal incredible promises. Jesus rose from the dead, and yes, ALL believers will rise from the dead as well! Without a doubt, that’s amazing, isn’t it? What is more, the Apostle Paul gives us some “insider information” on our heavenly bodies yet to come. This is so encouraging to me; it should be for you as well. If I’m honest, I do grow weary in my present body. You can ask my wife, I tend to groan and sigh on a minute-by-minute basis.

Our Heavenly Bodies

On this earth, there is no special diet, work-out regime, vitamins, surgery, physical therapy, replacement parts, tanning booth, pain killers, makeover, extra sleep, nothing whatsoever that can even come close to matching our new bodies. Obviously, it’s important to care for our earthly bodies, and to be good stewards of them. However, they are very temporary.

In view of this, I think it’s spiritually healthy (and worth the time) to consider our new bodies to come. They’ll be made by God Himself. That’s the truth of what lies ahead for us as believers. Looking at our future through a heavenly lens brings us hope of what’s to come. It’s more than we can comprehend. Our new bodies will be with Jesus. Hallelujah! I feel better already.

Looking forward with all of you,

Mac
