We’re wrapping up our “Delighting in God’s Word” series at church, and I get the privilege of preaching our last teaching. As I’ve read and reflected on the verses, one thing comes up repeatedly. The author has such a refreshing relationship with the Lord that it literally changes every aspect of his life. This is equally true for each of us and is unique to the Christian faith.
The Living God refreshes us daily!
“Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn Your commandments.” — Psalm 119:73
The author undeniably believes the truth packed in this one verse:
- God is the God who created and sustains him.
- God is real, personal, and knowable.
- God instructs and speaks to him.
Without a doubt, these truths connect him to the reality that he has a living, breathing, refreshing relationship with the God of Heaven and Earth. But it doesn’t end there. When WE (just like the psalmist) live in the reality that God knows us (and guides us daily), every aspect of our lives also looks different. Knowing God naturally refreshes everything. This includes our relationship with Him, ourselves, the lost, and other believers.
God refreshes our relationships with others.
“Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice, because I have hoped in your word.” — Psalm 119:74
This verse says that God continually refreshes and blesses other believers because of His impact on the author’s life. I’m sure we can all think of people who are living testaments to this verse. We see the friend always on fire for Jesus and the loved ones shining like stars as they walk through the darkest valleys. In other words, their relationship with the Lord is so rich that it refreshes and blesses us.
However, I don’t want you to just think about others who come to mind; I want you to see this verse as a measure of your life. Read it again:
- “Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice…” – Psalm 119:74
This is a personal reflection! My challenge for you is to ask the Lord, “Lord, do others see me and rejoice?” and “Lord, help me to be a refreshment to my brothers and sisters today.” Additionally, I encourage you to apply it and ask yourself, “How can I be a refreshing blessing to others today?”
Simply put, make this a goal in your next conversation with a friend, child, or spouse. By all means, put this verse into action.

- How does God and His Word refresh me?
- How does knowing God refresh my relationships with others?
