Meeting Together

Meeting Together – a word by Pastor Steve McInroy from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "even Jesus took time to get away on His own. But I do believe there is tremendous value in meeting together."

I have been undeniably blessed and privileged to meet with many people over the years. In fact, it is one of the most character-developing habits the Lord has placed in my life. I’m naturally an introvert; before giving my life to Christ, I was pretty happy riding my horse of life alone. Just me and my family. Perhaps you can relate? Without a doubt, a “lone ranger” existence was just fine by me. Now, I’m not saying that’s wrong. But I do believe God has better for us. These verses always spur me on,

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the day approaching.” — Hebrews 10:24-25

Let us not give up meeting together. What a vital component in our role as the body of Christ. Additionally, it’s evident when we gather together. It happens in weekly church attendance, Small Group, Youth Group, one-on-one discipleship, volunteering…the list goes on. We certainly don’t lack opportunities. Be sure to take advantage of what God is doing at The Rock.

So Much Fruit

I want to highlight some fruit from our monthly Men’s and Ladies’ Nights. It is so good to see relationships forged for the cause of Christ. We foster old friendships as we show up (even when our flesh begs us to stay home). I love seeing first-time Men’s Night attendees absolutely blown away by our love for each other. They’re often amazed when they feel welcomed and invited into our family.

I also marvel when I then see men I’ve known for most of my Christian life. We have invested in something significant and meaningful. Our Men’s and Ladies’ Night season will soon end as we break for the summer. The Ladies had a fantastic finale last week, and our Men’s Night finale is almost here. We’d love you to join us. Thank God for an incredible year — we can’t wait for the fall kickoff. In my opinion, God has used those two events to change lives.

Invest Your Summer

Let us not give up meeting together this summer. There are plenty of opportunities available. With this in mind, please make an effort to be with others. Perhaps join a summer Small Group, ask a friend to meet with you, invite people to your home, serve others, plan to meet someone at a park regularly, check out the church calendar — enjoy continued fellowship. I realize we can’t do everything, and we shouldn’t. Also, other people don’t energize everyone; even Jesus took time to get away on His own. But I do believe there is tremendous value in meeting together. Pray and ask the Lord to help you strike a balance. “… encouraging one another and all the more as you see the day approaching.”

Your brother in Christ,

Mac
