What God has Prepared

Made for Heaven — a word by Pastor Bill Young from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "Undoubtedly, God has so much more for us in the future. Heaven awaits us. We will never be satisfied until then"

“However, as it is written: ‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him’— but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.”— 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 (NIV)

I recently taught on a section of verses from Romans 8. As a result, it got me thinking about Heaven. We are told in Colossians 3:1-2 to get our minds and hearts on Heaven and not be fixed on earthy things. As I tried to apply that verse, I was reminded of a Christmas at our home many years ago.

After one of my wife’s gift-wrapping marathons, our youngest boy (Timothy) hugged her and said, “Thanks for wrapping more presents, Mom!” He also thanked her for not putting all the presents under the tree so he would be surprised with the appearance of new presents on Christmas morning! We can all surely relate to this innate desire to be “surprised” with more. In fact, I believe this is how God created us – with longings on earth that will never be satisfied until we get to Heaven.

Even if we received all the presents in the world, we would never truly be satisfied. Only God can meet our longings. He created us for more. I’m convinced of that. That is why we sometimes feel bummed out – even when (especially when) we get everything we “want” and yet remain unsatisfied.

Wanting More

In his classic book, Mere Christianity, CS Lewis wrote, “If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.”

Amen! This is absolutely so true. As you look forward to a new day, week, or year, why not remind yourself that this life can only offer temporary happiness and limited satisfaction? Undoubtedly, God has so much more for us in the future. Heaven awaits us. We will never be satisfied until then.

How about you? Do you look forward to Heaven? Are you excited about spending time with Jesus, along with loved ones waiting for you? Is there more you desire? I know I do. Remember, someday, we will be there. And we’ll finally be fulfilled.

Excited for more,

Bill
