Warning Against Apostasy (Hebrews 10:26-39)

These verses (Hebrews 10:26-39) carry a stern, fearful warning intended to frighten the readers -- Jewish Christians. They were flirting with the possibility of returning to their former Judaism and sacrificial system. This is the fourth (of five) warning passages in Hebrews. This section has also frightened many faithful Christians in our day; they misunderstand its meaning and intent. In this message, we will discover who the author was talking to and why it matters.

From Series: "Hebrews - Consider Jesus"

“Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, 2 who was faithful to [God] who appointed Him.” Hebrews 3:1-2a The first century Jewish Christians suffered for their faith. In the face of their persecution, those weary Saints were tempted to abandon Christianity. The author of Hebrews wrote this expansive book to teach them why they should “Consider Jesus.” Two thousand years later, the words and truths in Hebrews are relevant for our lives today. Jesus is superior to anything we can think of. It’s important to remember the preeminence of Christ (and what it means) when we face trials and persecutions. We need to know Him. Hebrews 12:3 says, “Consider Him who endured from sinners such hostility against Himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.” Consider Jesus with us as we study the book of Hebrews.
