  1. What Would Your Nickname Be?

To Be or Not To Be — a word by Pastor Billy Johnson from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. “What do you want to be known for?” We’ve all heard of “to-do” lists, but how many of us have a “to-be” list?

The dads in our amazing Youth Group teach each week’s lessons. This year, they’ve been covering several character sketches of men and women from the Bible. We’ve learned about both good and bad character from them.

In turn, I taught on the character of Barnabas. I’ll ask you the same question I asked the youth and their parents.

“Based on what those around you know about you and see in your life, what would your nickname be? What are you known for?”

  2. East Troublesome Fire

East Troublesome Fire – a word by Pastor Josh Whitney from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "Troublesome things are coming, Christian. However, God has designed the local Church to be an encouragement (and support)"

“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” — Ecclesiastes 4:9

Some of my family and I hiked to Fern Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park this summer. It was a beautiful hike, and we had a fantastic time. I had been curious to hike to Fern Lake, given that a terrible fire had destroyed it three years ago. It was appropriately named the East Troublesome Fire. Additionally, the fire burned 193,000 acres (making it the second-largest fire in Colorado history).

  3. Encourage Others

Encourage Others – a word by Pastor Bill Young from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "Can I encourage you as well? Don’t give up if you feel worn out, inadequate, or ineffective in the Gospel. We will eventually reap"

“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”  (Hebrews 3:13 NIV84)

In a recent message I taught, I shared about the power and importance of encouraging others. Consequently, I then remembered a story about a man who often woke up on Sunday mornings and did not feel like attending church. “It’s boring, and the people don’t like me,” he protested. “Then why go at all?” he was asked. “Well, I have to go. I’m the pastor.”

  4. Be Refreshed by God’s People

Be Refreshed by God’s People – a word by Pastor Bryan Edwards from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "there is an incredible benefit when we devote ourselves to fellowship with God’s people (Acts 2:42). It strengthens our faith."

Last week, the pastors and deacons of The Rock Church got away together. We went to Eden to spend some uninterrupted time together. For three days, we ate, sang, laughed, and prayed. We shared what the Lord was doing in our lives. There was even time for some brothers to golf and hike together. (It may not surprise you that I stayed back at the house to spend the afternoon with a cat who lived nearby.)
